Valentine's Day Cocktails

How about some Pure Michigan LOVE for Valentine's Day? Here are a few recipes featuring one of our favorite distilleries in the Mitten State, Grand Traverse Distillery (Traverse City, MI) Cheers to local Michigan LOVE with grain to bottle spirits.

Passionate Kisses

1.5 oz. True North Rye Vodka
1 oz. Passionfruit juice
1 oz. cranberry juice
.5 oz. lemon juice
.5 oz. simple syrup (2:1 sugar/water ratio)
Sparkling Wine

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass. Add ice to the shaker and shake the ingredients for 10 seconds. Strain into a champagne flute and top with sparkling wine and a lemon twist.


We Make a Great Pear

1.5 oz. True North Rye Vodka
1 oz. lemon juice
.75 oz. Rosemary Syrup
2 oz. Pear Nectar
Ginger Ale

Shake all ingredients for 10 seconds. Strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Top with a splash of Ginger Ale. Garnish with a fresh sprig of rosemary and fresh pear slices.

Rosemary Syrup: Heat 1 cup of water with several sprigs of fresh rosemary over medium heat for 20 minutes. Remove the rosemary and add 1 cup of sugar. Stir well until sugar completely dissolves. Allow to cool to room temperature then bottle and refrigerate. The syrup will be good for approximately two weeks.

Meet Me in the Garden

3 oz. Peninsula Gin
1 oz. lime juice
Sparkling Rose wine

Shake gin and juice with ice for 10 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass and top with sparkling Rose wine and edible flowers.

Mid Afternoon Delight

2 oz. Straight Bourbon
1 oz. Simple Syrup
.75 oz. Lemon Juice
1 egg white
Angostura Bitters

Shake ingredients without ice for 10 seconds. Add ice and shake for an additional 20 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass and drop several drops of bitters on top.

Toddy for Two

1.5 oz. Ole George Rye Whiskey
.75 oz. lemon juice
.5 oz. Ginger Simple Syrup
Hot Water
Lemon slice, whole clove, star anise, cinnamon stick (garnish)

Combine whiskey, lemon juice, and syrup in a footed mug. Top with hot water. Add spices and lemon wheel as garnishes.

Ginger Syrup: Combine 1 cup of hot water with 1 cup of sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add 1 tablespoon of ground ginger. Stir well. Allow to cool to room temperature, bottle, and refrigerate. The syrup will be good for approximately two weeks.

Cherry Chocolate Old Fashioned

2 oz. Cherry Whiskey
3 dashes Fee Bros. Aztec Chocolate Bitters
.5 oz. Maple Syrup
Luxardo Cherries

Muddle 2 cherries with maple syrup and bitters. Add whiskey and ice. Stir well. Garnish with additional cherries.
