Sweet Dreams - the Eurythmic Bedtime Elixir of Golden Milk

Although Golden Milk has existed for thousands of centuries and is a staple in East Indian culture, it has gained popularity among the hipster coffee swilling crowds and I'm sure it is an Instagram darling. I'm not going to tell you all the stories of growing up drinking this to avoid the flu. I didn't and I'm not going to load this blog post down with beautiful photos taken with my latest smartphone. All I'm going to do is tell you that I took the basics of Golden Milk and made it taste better. I can tell you it works. For those suffering from insomnia during these critical global pandemic times, sip on a cup of my Sweet Dreams Eurythmic Bedtime Elixir. For those that like a "spirited" nightcap, add a little of your favorite liquor. Sweet Dreams likes most spirits. One thing I will tell you is this - Golden Milk is known to:
  • Fight inflammation
  • Protect against oxidative damage and sleep deprivation
  • Promote relaxation and lower anxiety levels
  • Turmeric (Curcumin) and Black Peppercorns (Piperine) become besties and are like the wonder twins when their powers are activated together

Sweet Dreams Elixir

  • 2 cups of coconut milk
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. coconut oil
  • 1 tbl. turmeric paste (see below)
  • 1 tbl. freshly chopped ginger root
  • 4-6 black peppercorns
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tbls honey, agave nectar, or maple syrup (sweetener)
Turmeric Paste - 1/2 cup hot water, 1/4 cup turmeric. Stir together well and allow to cool. Turmeric paste will last up to two weeks refrigerated.

Heat coconut milk in a medium pan over medium heat. Stir in all ingredients except the sweetener. Stir and allow ingredients to simmer over low heat for 20 minutes, stirring regularly. Remove from heat and strain through a fine strainer to remove ginger and peppercorns. Add sweetener to taste and enjoy warm. Allow to cool then refrigerate.

You can enjoy the Sweet Dreams Elixir for 5-7 days refrigerated. Reheat a mug in the microwave every night for a calming and relaxing way to prepare yourself for a restful evening of slumber.
